Hairbrushes act like sponges or carpets. They harbour a lot of undesirable stuff. They trap hair (obviously), dust, dirt, oils, old product and may even trap dustmites.

This is exactly what really got me: every time you brush by having an unclean hairbrush, you really re-deposit grease, product, dust and the dead skin cells back to hair. Require a barf bag? Further, your brush smells and loses effectiveness when it is blocked (no real surprise there). If that’s not motivation enough to wash your brushes, I’m not sure what’s!
